We cover a variety of topics across user experience and user interface design. These include research tactics, design thinking, product management, customer journeys, ideation and more – all of which play an important role in making successful design decisions. The course features a client project with a local startup, which students work on independently.
The visual design section teaches industry leading tools (we use Sketch and Invision), and how to visualise solutions rooted in research and user testing. Students also learn how to implement best practices, conventions, and the latest design trends and guidelines into their work.
The final project is presented in person to the entire class with the startup present. Students are asked to deliver a presentation summarising their journey, process, and work throughout the ten-week course.
Learn by Doing
We’ll cover the concepts, but also demonstrate the exercises and methods we use daily to push our products forward and make sure they’ll succeed and stand out. Students will enjoy a mix of lectures and workshop time, where they will get to practice these methods and then apply them to their projects.
The final project is presented in person to the client, where students deliver a presentation summarising their journey, process, and work throughout the ten-week course.
In order to encourage discussion and collaboration we limit our class sizes to 8 students.
Who is this course for?
The course is perfect for anyone who is looking to add digital product design skills to their existing skillset.
Previous students include account managers, front-end developers, graphic designers and brand consultants.
Although there are no pre-requisites to take the course, having a keen interest in design definitely helps. There is no need to have any knowledge of particular software as you will be taught everything along the way.
Who is the instructor?
Amit Patel is a freelance Product Manager/Designer working with a number of clients here (most recently Crossrail 2) in London. He’s the instructor of our 10 week Product Design course while growing Experience Haus.
He was formerly the lead instructor on General Assembly’s full-time immersive and part-time UX courses in London. He recently spent a year working as the Product Manager at Adio.fm, a startup, cloud-based platform designed to re-invigorate the way we curate and view audio and video via mobile and the web. Previously he spent five years working on the Crossrail project (Europe’s biggest construction project) working on business process/analysis, and project management.
